Air pollution causes 2 million premature deaths worldwide per year.
Direct causes of air pollution related deaths include aggravated asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, lung and heart diseases, and other respiratory allergies. The US EPA estimates that a proposed set of changes in diesel engine technology and oil recycling (Tier 2) could result in 12,000 fewer premature mortalities, 15,000 fewer heart attacks, 6000 fewer emergency room visits by children with asthma, and 8900 fewer respiratory-related hospital admissions each year in the United States.
Every gallon of used cooking oil we recycle from you will prevent 26% of the Carbon Monoxide and 39% of the Particulate Matter associated with a gallon of standard diesel fuel from entering the air around us. It will also offset Carbon Dioxide by 100%. Hydrocarbons, which cause smog and ozone, are greatly reduced through the use of Biofuels and Sulfur emissions, which are linked with allergies and asthma, are practically eliminated.
The amount of Carbon Dioxide offset through Waste Oil Recyclers efforts is equal to eliminating the annual emissions from over 2,000 passenger vehicles. On a larger scale, the combined efforts of the Biodiesel industry since 2005 have achieved greenhouse gas reductions equal to removing over 3 million passenger cars from US highways!
Currently, most waste oil collection services use the oil they collect as an animal feed additive. While this is utilizing something normally considered a waste product, it isn’t being put to its most productive use and isn’t contributing to the wellbeing of our communities’ food supply or air quality.
Waste Oil Recyclers processing facility is fueled by used vegetable oil. Any electricity used at Waste Oil Recyclers is purchased from The Energy Cooperative and is 100% renewable. Onsite at our facility is an organic garden fueled by Organic Mechanics’ natural sustainable soil. Many of the locations we collect from use waste derived Biofuels including fuel grade waste vegetable oil in commercial heating applications and Biodiesel in on and off road vehicles. Waste Oil Recyclers is one part in a growing movement in this area and across the globe to make positive changes to improve our environment.
